National Brake Safety Awareness Month at Herb Gordon Nissan

While there may seem like countless ways that car owners are tasked with taking great care of their automobiles, we already have expressed the importance of keeping close tabs on your brakes. If you ignored last month's post about getting brake service don't right here at Herb Gordon Nissan, don't fret, because now that it's National Brake Safety Awareness Month, it's the perfect time for us Nissan dealers to remind customers once again to get their brakes checked out at their local Nissan service centers.

If you haven't had time to get a brake inspection done, the following are a few of the most common telltale signs that something is wrong:

Screeching or Squealing

The most common sign that there's something wrong with your vehicle's brakes is when they screech or grind any time you use them. This happens because when brake pads wear down, the screeching can alert the driver when it's time to have them replaced. If left unchecked, the screeching can go metal-on-metal and become much worse, so heed that sound the moment it occurs!

Pulling to the Side

Sometimes, a vehicle pulling to one side can be an alignment issue, but it also could mean that something is wrong with some part of your brakes. The way to know the difference is checking that the pulling only happens when the brakes are used.

Odd Pedal Pressure

If braking requires pressing the pedal all the way to the floor, something clearly is wrong. The same can be true if the pedal requires harder pressure than usual. In both instances, it is likely your vehicle is need of brake repairs.

While new 2018 Nissan vehicles drive like a dream, drivers in Columbia, MD can have brakes wear thin over time. August is a great time to have them checked as dealers all over the country push for National Brake Safety Awareness Month.
